Lake Country Rotary’s Yule Feed Families surpasses $50,000

Donors opened their hearts and pushed the Yule Feed Families food pantry drive not only past last year’s mark, but blew the doors off an ambitious 2024 goal and even surpassed the $50,000 mark.
When the final pledged check arrived Friday, Lake Country Rotary Club’s 34th annual drive had raised $50,859 to be given to the food pantries in Hartland, Pewaukee, Kettle Moraine, North Lake and St. Vincent de Paul in Hartland -- a nearly 47% increase from the 2023 campaign.
That elevated total giving to Yule Feed Families in Lake Country since 1991 to $1,075,430.96. In addition, students at North Shore Middle School collected 3,000 groceries as an adjunct to the Yule Feed Families, driving total giving of groceries to 48,274 since its inception.
Rotarians Scott Peterson and Gary Jasiek, who founded the drive, wanted to eclipse the 2023 tally of $34,688.55 and set a goal of $40,000 when the effort kicked off just before Thanksgiving. That 15% jump looked like a tall order at first.
“I was getting teary eyed when we passed the $50,000 mark. When Gary originally proposed an ambitious goal of $40,000 that gave me pause, but he was right – and then some,” said Peterson. “What a generous community and membership we have to get behind this drive and do so much for those in need.”
Jasiek said pantries are seeing increased need and the response was overwhelming.
“We had many people and businesses raise their giving from last year and some even made multiple donations this year to get us to where we are. That fills us with such gratitude on behalf of the many families who are challenged to keep food on the table,” said Jasiek.
The annual total was the 11th highest raised in the history of Yule Feed, falling just shy of the 2017 mark, which exceeded $51,000.
Yule Feed Families was started when Jasiek, publisher, and Peterson, editor, of the now-defunct Lake Country Reporter, wanted to strengthen the connection between the newspaper and the community. Two years later, their Rotary club joined the drive as a partner and the club took sole responsibility for the drive in about 2018.
The drive begins around Thanksgiving and ends on Dec. 31. The 35th annual Yule Feed Families is already being planned for November.
